New album from The Wilderness Of Manitoba!

This is the new release from Canadian Folk band The Wilderness Of Manitoba. I’m really looking forward to hearing this album in it’s entirety, the two singles i have heard sound great and have a really nice tone throughout.

It’s now available in Canada, but there is no information about puchasing it here in the UK as of yet.

So excited for this to arrive!

We just had this wonderful submission, thank you for sharing! Everyone please go and take the time to listen to this great band, and their sweet sweet harmonies.

VILLAGERS NEW RECORD - {AWAYLAND}

I have always been a massive fan of Villagers, their debut really blew me away, so dark and gloomy. I have been lucky enough to see them twice in the last 2 years, first seeing them support my favourite band Fleet Foxes at the Eden Project in Cornwall, such a perfect location to see such a atmospheric band. The last time i saw them was actually only a few months back supporting Grizzly Bear at Brixton Academy, i was really excited knowing that they would be playing some new material, but unfortunately i was majorly disappointed. I felt that they had lost what made them so special, his voice still sounded as beautiful as always, but the music just didn’t carry it, and all intimacy was lost. I remember coming away with a sort of Bob Dylan at Newport Folk Festival feeling…

But this could change, i wont make too harsh a judgment until i have listened to the album in it’s entirety, which you can now pre-order from HERE, and will be released on the 14th of this month.

There is also a special edition version of the album available, limited to only 500 copies..

”+ SPECIAL EDITION 10” x 10” fabric cover hardback book with silver foil print, containing the album on CD with an exclusive DVD featuring five intimate live performances by Villagers recorded in Ireland”

I just found this Mezz Mezzrow record which belonged to my Grandather, i hadn’t ever heard it before so i typed it into You Tube as i don’t have a turntable where i am and it’s amazing. Recorded in Paris in May 1955. I wasn’t able to find a video of the exact recordings but here is an earlier recording.

I have just found this absolute gem in my Dad’s collection, this is from The Concert For Bangla Desh with a huge array of special guests including - George Harrison, Ravi Shankar, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards..and a lot more.
I can’t wait to get back to London to put this on.
The problem with being a record collector is that it is expensive, so for the last couple of months i have been unable to purchase anything, with it coming to the end of term and money running very low. But all is good, christmas has been and gone and so have the days of new bikes and Street Sharks.. This year i just asked for a few records and i was lucky enough to come out very well.
The first is the new release from Canadian band Broken Social Scene - ‘Forgiveness Rock Record’ I’m gutted that i have only just discovered and absorbed this band, as they have just finished an 18 month tour and have planned to take a hiatus.
The second record is ‘Boys & Girls’ by Alabama Shakes, formed in Athens Alabama in 2009, this is fantastic debut and also comes with a 7” single.
Next is Mercury Award winning ‘An Awesome Wave’ from Alt-J, this album was a huge grower for me, it has great production and a real nice vibe throughout the entire record. The only thing that lets this band down is their live shows and lyrical content, which aren’t given enough thought and doesn’t quite compare to the quality of the music itself. My favourite track on this album would be ‘Tessellate’ ‘Taro’ and ‘Something Good’
Last but not least is a huge favourite of mine from this year, ‘The Haunted Man’ by Bat For Lashes, like Broken Social Scene i have only just started listening to this band i have completely fallen for them, the stand out tracks on this album for me, are: ‘Lilies’ ‘The Haunted Man’ and ‘Laura’

Here is their new single ‘Inhaler’ I think you will be surprised….

AMAZING NEWS! LOCAL NATIVES ANNOUNCE ALBUM DETAILS AND THIER FIRST SINGLE!

I have been waiting a long time for this day. Their debut album Gorilla Manor changed a lot for me, and set the standard very high for their follow up.

The last time i saw them was at the HMV forum in Kentish town, which was their last show of a very long tour.

Sadly in March 2011 Bass player Andy Hamm left Local Natives, but at Leopallooza they announced what everyone was waiting and hoping for, that they had just built a new studio and they were recording the new album.

And now it is ready! ‘Hummingbird’ is going to be released on the 28th January 2013.

Their first single is ‘Breakers’ which you can listen to through the link below, and will also be up for digital download from October 23rd.

They have also announced the tour dates, and they will be playing at Hoxton Bar & Kitchen in London on December 6th. I will be there…Make sure you are too…
